Diagnostic Imaging Technologist III          
Temporary Full Time
Location: Goose Bay

The primary purpose of this position is to perform Ultrasound procedures in accordance with accepted sonography radiology standards, and the policies and procedures of Labrador Grenfell Health. Diagnostic radiography is also required and examinations in accordance with accepted radiology standards and the policies and procedures of Labrador Grenfell Health. 

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved course in Radiological Technology;
  • Graduation from an approved course in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Must be registered with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, CAMRT, and must maintain registration on an ongoing basis;
  • Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or with Sonography Canada, and must maintain registration on an ongoing basis;
  • Must be willing to do CAMRT CT Certification and be a member of the CT Technologist Team.
  • Experience in ultrasound procedures and general radiography techniques in an accredited health care facility
  • Knowledgeof the principles, methods, materials, hazards, and techniques of the Diagnostic Imaging Department, skill in the use of all radiology equipment ultrasound equipment, and CT technology and in the performance of required examinations;
  • CPR certification.

Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Performs general Ultrasound Exams, which includes and not limited to Abdominal Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound, Pelvis, and Small Parts Ultrasound procedures, Vascular Ultrasound, and Biopsy and guidance Ultrasound as required;
  • Performs general radiographic procedures including general radiology, and Fluoroscopic Radiography, and  other specialized procedures as required;
  • Performs CT Examinations and procedures as required;
  • Operates all equipment with confidence and efficiency;
  • Must participate in ongoing education for ultrasound to maintain registration
  • Must be willing to work evenings, day shifts , weekends, per departmental schedule, and be an active member of  a team of Diagnostic Imaging Technologist covering on call outside the scheduled working hours on the departmental rotation,
  • Must assume responsibility for the Ultrasound service and the CT service when required, which includes Ultrasound procedures, CT procedures, quality control, equipment maintenance, orientation of other staff members and ongoing educational upgrading;
  • Working with a Provincial PACS imaging system, quality controls all of the images in each exam done by the incumbent, and verifies all patient demographics are correct before verifying every exam and the images to the Provincial PACS Long and Short Term Storage:
  • Participates in the departmental Quality Initiatives program and assists in the preparation of audits
  • Performs clerical work related to diagnostic procedures.
  • Participates in the departmental equipment maintenance program by performing duties as outlined in the Procedure Manual and as required by manufacturing company;
  • Responsible for restocking supplies used during procedure and making examination room ready for next patient after each patient has been completed;
  • Ensures that clean linen is obtained, sorted and stored for daily departmental needs and that dirty linen is sent back to the laundry for cleaning;
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety of patients, visitors, staff and self during examinations and procedures;
  • Responsible for reporting all equipment faults found while working as a Diagnostic Imaging Technologist to the Lead Diagnostic Imaging Technologist IV or their designate, and Regional Radiology Biomed Engineer;
  • Troubleshoots all equipment and makes service calls where applicable;
  • Reviews annually, or as needed, the departmental Policy and Procedure, Fire and Evacuation, Emergency Planning,  and Infection Control manuals.
  • Protects the confidentiality of patient information and abides by the rules and regulations of the Labrador Grenfell Health Region, which are reflected in its philosophy, policies and procedures.
  • Follows infection control guidelines for “Standard Precautions” when x-raying infectious patients as outlined in the Infection Control Policies.
  • Assists in the hospital’s orientation program for new employees and medical students by instructing them in the documentation, processes and policies used in a Diagnostic Imaging Department;
  • Participates in the continuing education programs provided by the Labrador Grenfell Health Region, and the hospital and keeps abreast of technological changes to update current knowledge and skills.
  • Interacts effectively with the general public, clients, client’s family, physicians, co-workers and other hospital staff on a daily basis;
  • Organizes emergency work so it can be done in a timely fashion with the least disruption to routine work;
  • Safety is a priority for Labrador Grenfell Health. All staff (and volunteers) must/are responsible to ensure that safety for patients/residents/clients, coworkers and themselves is paramount in the workplace.
  • Perform other related duties as required;

Salary:

  • LX-33 of the NAPE LX salary scales $35.22 to $44.33 per hour, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance. 

Hours of Work: 

  • 70 hours biweekly (on call required).
